Shivasamudram Falls, also known as Shivanasamudra Falls, is a picturesque cascade located on the Kaveri River in the Chamarajanagar District of Karnataka, India. The falls hold historical significance as the site of Asia’s first hydroelectric power station, established in 1902 by Sir M. Visvesvaraya. This pioneering project was initiated to supply electricity to the city of Bangalore, making it a landmark in the history of India’s industrial development. The falls are also a revered site in Hindu mythology, associated with the legends of Lord Shiva, adding a spiritual dimension to their historical importance.
Shivasamudram Falls is situated approximately 120 kilometers from Bangalore and 81 kilometers from Mysore. The falls are divided into two segments: Gaganachukki Falls and Barachukki waterfalls, which are collectively referred to as Shivanasamudra Falls.
