The Trail

The hike starts on a gravel route bordered by trees, starting at the parking lot (details below). It’s a fairly easy stroll that ends when you get to a bench seat and sign for the 250-meter waterfall. 

After there, the path becomes a mixture of gravel and dirt and starts to descend gradually. The woodland becomes deeper and more shaded. 

The track becomes slightly steeper and you’ll come to a set of stairs after barely 50 metres. The path is now concrete, well-maintained, and equipped with handrails for safety. 

There are a few more steps to climb on the opposite side of the river after descending the floating stairway before you arrive at a lower vantage point overlooking the Falls.

Hanging Bridge

The hike is most enjoyable just before the waterfall. You’ll pass an amazing hanging bridge over the river gorge just as you start to feel the cool, wet air from the falls. Among the most unusual hanging bridges we have seen in Costa Rica is this one. It has steps integrated into it and slopes down to help you down the final portion of height.

Although a touch shaky, the hanging bridge is enclosed and safe. To aid with balance, you can grab onto the railing.

You might want to carry tiny children you are visiting if they are able to ride in a carrier. Even though our five-year-old succeeded, he was undoubtedly nervous!

The hike takes (15-20) minutes overall, either way. Its overall difficulty ranges from simple to moderate.
